God Sees Your Worth

April 26, 2016

Prince’s estate is estimated to be worth at least 250 million dollars while Beyonce’s net worth is estimated at 450 – 465 million dollars.  For some of us, money establishes our worth while others look to relationships, the most expensive brands, cars, the size of our homes, etc.

For many years, I felt like I must not have been worth much to anyone. I struggled with rejection and abandonment and feeling like I had to prove my worth to others and thus, every interaction became a battle I had to win. I was fighting to show people who I was and to convince them that I was somebody worth loving, worth having around, worth having as a friend and worth fighting for.

I wanted someone who wouldn’t give up on me; someone who wouldn’t decide I was not his/her time. I wanted someone to go the extra mile for me. What I really wanted was for someone to value me, someone to give me a sense of worth.

But the void was never filled and the battle was never won because my value is not based on the acceptance or worth assigned to me by others.

Today, I realize that my worth has to be built on something more reliable than people. It has to come from a solid, unchanging foundation, not from people and things that are likely to waver. Luke 12:6-7 and Matthew 10:29-31 both remind me that God values me more than the sparrows which are cared for daily as they soar in the skies.

So today, I remind myself that I am worth something to God. Today, I remember I have worth and value to God and to His kingdom. Today, I look in the Word of God to establish myself on a foundation that is firm. Today, I stop looking at others, and start looking to God.

  1.  Isaiah 43:4 declares that I am precious in God’s eyes.
  2. Romans 5:8 – I am loved greatly.
  3. Ephesians 2:10 – I am God’s masterpiece.
  4. Galatians 3:26 – I am a child of God.
  5. John 8:36 – I am free from the past, condemnation, guilt, worthlessness, self-pity, rejection, and everything else that keeps me bound up.
  6.  Psalm 139:14 – I am fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.

Father, there are times when I see little worth in myself and in the things you’ve placed inside of me. Help me to see that most importantly, I matter to You. When everything around me says I don’t matter or that my gifts / contributions don’t matter, help me to remember what You have said about me.

How do you remind yourself of your value and worth?
