5 Scriptures That Encouraged Me This Month

Encouraging Scriptures

Sometimes we get stuck in a scriptural rut where we may be reading scriptures, but they don’t really impact our daily thoughts, decisions, or actions.  This month, I was blessed to be able to reflect on these five scriptures and allow the Word of God to inspire change in my life.   These scriptures have encouraged me, challenged me, pushed me and guided me this month and as I share them, I pray that you too would be encouraged from them.

1.Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11

Of course, for many of us, the beginning of a new year is a great time to reflect on where we are in various areas of our lives. It’s a time for introspection and evaluation. This year as I focused on evaluating several relationships, I thought a great deal about my relationship with God and how my heart is sometimes divided. This month, my prayer has been “Lord give me an undivided heart…” Give me  a heart that desires you and a heart that is united to your purposes and your plans. We certainly can’t walk together with God if we are not united.

2. Trust in the Lord with all your heart lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6

Another version says: Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track (Message Bible)

Enough said here. Raise your hand if you need more of God’s leading and direction and more of his voice in all that you do. (I’m raising both hands here)!

  1. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the world. Live as children of light. Ephesians 5:8

This scripture reminds me of where I once was. And maybe where I still am in some areas of my life. But most importantly, it reminds me of my identity in Christ. It reminds me that the past is no longer what I’m obligated to. Christ has given me a new identity as light. And light shines. Light doesn’t hold back its’ shine. It shines clearly, brightly so that others can see and so that others from far can be drawn in.

  1. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:10-11 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist… Ephesians 6:14

One of the things I realized this month is that when we do not load up on Jesus’ truth, His Word and time with Him, it is easy to get swept away in things that are not God’s best for us. Having God’s truth always around our waists opens us up to be able to seek truth in other areas of our lives.

  1. Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly. Philippians 1:14

There’s something about this verse that really drew me in. The concept that what I may be going through isn’t just about me is huge. The idea that others could be encouraged in the Lord, or that others can grow stronger in their faith because of my chains gives me a sense of purpose in the midst of trouble or struggle. It gives me a push to keep going, knowing that in the end, not only will my life be changed, but others around me will be impacted by “my chains.”

What scriptures have encouraged you this month?

Lord, help me to always view your word in a fresh new way.

Help me to constantly listen to Your voice as you speak into my life.
